Flags have long been used to represent and transmit messages. For example, certain flags are used at sea so that ships can talk to one another, and signal flags have been used during wars to send messages and to move the military. Flags can also represent families, such as with a coat of arms.
The underlying theme of a flag is communication. But special flags can also let someone know how you are feeling. By making your own flag, you can represent your family, your imaginary country, your feelings or your name. The sky's the limit, so hoist your flag high!
